George P. Kroh ’56

George P. Kroh ’56

George Kroh attended Pembroke-Country Day School from grade 6 until his graduation with the Class of 1956. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Trinity College in 1960. George has continued serving Trinity College with Fundraising for the past eight years he has served as class president. In 1985, he received Trinity’s Alumni Medal for Excellence.

After graduating, George worked for Krosh Brothers Development Company, the family business. From 1960-66, while continuing to work for Kroh Brothers, he served as a medic in the US Air Force Reserved Squadron, 36th Aero Medical Evacuation Squadron and was Honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant. In 1969 George and his brother Jack Kroh ‘58 took over the family business. Kroh Brothers became one of the top 50 national real estate companies and was active in 17 states.

The Kroh family gifted several properties to Kansas City area non-profit organizations including: Kansas City Art Institute, City of Leawood, Rockhurst High School, Park Department of Kansas City, Missouri and Pembroke Hill School which is the 6.5 acre Kroh Campus at 51st and State Line Road. In addition, George’s service to Pembroke-Country Day and Pembroke Hill is extraordinary stretching over many decades and includes countless hours of dedication as trustee of Pembroke Hill School (1977-1983) and then on the Alumni Association serving an numerous committees including the chair of the alumni summer internship program from 1997-1998 and serving as the Alumni Association President from 1998-1999.

In addition to his service to Pembroke Hill, George has served on several other professional and charitable organization boards including Commerce Bank, Kansas City Real Estate and Property Management Boards, the Midwest Research Institute, The Boys Club of Kansas City and the Whitney Museum National Committee. He also served on the board of the Kansas City Art Institute from 1978-1983 and as President of the Kansas City Art Institute Board of Trustees from 1983-1986, and board member and fundraiser for the Kansas City Community Gardens (1983-to present). He also has served twice on the Vestry of St Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

George has been married since 1966 to his wife, Carolyn who was a primary school art teacher at Pembroke Hill from 1987-1998. George enjoys spending time with Carolyn, their children, Rachel ’87, Pierce and Brent ’93, and their seven grandchildren. He is also a lifelong gardener and sailor. George tends his vegetable garden every day of the growing season and sails the Cape Cod, Maine coasts and all over Europe, whenever he can.

Beyond his achievements, it is George’s warmth and personality that truly leave a lasting impression on the people, organizations, and communities he touches. Driven by a sincere desire to connect with others, he has never met a stranger—effortlessly striking up conversations, making everyone feel at ease, and taking a deep interest in their lives and well-being. That same passion and willingness to embrace new challenges prompted him to embark on a series of sailing voyages across the Atlantic and throughout Europe at age 65, reflecting a lifelong spirit of curiosity and adventure. Above all, George has consistently dedicated his unique personal talents to enriching and giving back to his community.
